Hoosier Canines uses four core labels in its Bernedoodle program: Mini, Standard, Ultra, and Multi-Gen. Mini and Standard describe expected size. Ultra and Multi-Gen describe breeding type or lineage. They should not be placed on one size ladder.

Size labels

Mini and Standard help families compare the expected adult scale of a litter. The estimate still comes from the actual parents and family line, and it should not be treated as one guaranteed final weight.

Breeding-type labels

Ultra refers to a Bernese-influenced pairing described by Hoosier Canines, while Multi-Gen refers to an established multigenerational Bernedoodle lineage. Neither label automatically determines adult size, coat, shedding, or personality.

Families should look beyond the headline label and review both parents, the pairing, health screening, expected adult range, coat traits, and the breeder’s goal. The label gives context; the parent dogs and individual puppies provide the useful detail.

What this guide can and cannot tell you

Generation and breeding-type labels summarize ancestry, but inherited traits do not appear as a simple average. Coat, build, behavior, and health risk must be evaluated through the actual parents and family line.

No label should be used as an absolute promise of low shedding, allergy compatibility, adult size, temperament, or health.

Questions worth asking

  • What do the actual parent dogs show in adult size, coat, health testing, and temperament?
  • What has the breeder observed in related dogs or comparable litters?
  • Which parts of the expectation are well supported, and which parts remain normal biological variation?

Bottom line

Hoosier Canines’ documented Bernedoodle focus uses four core labels: Mini, Standard, Ultra, and Multi-Gen. Mini and Standard describe size categories; Ultra and Multi-Gen describe breeding approaches or types. They should not be mixed into one size ladder.
